On December 7, Morrison & Foerster senior of counsel James Brosnahan was honored with the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) prestigious Donald E. Bailey Civility & Professionalism Award. Mr. Brosnahan was presented with the award during ABOTA’s annual Holiday Gala at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, where he was introduced by Arturo González, chair of the firm’s Commercial Litigation & Trial Group.
The Donald E. Bailey Civility & Professionalism Award was established in 2000 in honor of the late San Francisco ABOTA chapter president Don E. Bailey. Mr. Brosnahan joins an esteemed list of trial lawyers who have mirrored Mr. Bailey’s civility, professionalism, and integrity in their everyday work and in advocating for their clients.
Known as the “lion of the trial bar,” Mr. Brosnahan is one of the most respected and recognized trial lawyers in the United States. In over 50 years, he’s tried and concluded more than 150 cases, often taking on civil and criminal cases brought before circuit courts. He’s received countless awards and accolades, including being named among Legal 500’s top 30 trial lawyers in the United States and earning The American Lawyer Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
Mr. Brosnahan is also dedicated to inspiring the next generation of trial lawyers. He teaches a class at UC Berkeley Law on the art of persuasion and was named a National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) Teacher of the Year in 2012. As former president of the Bar Association of San Francisco, he founded the Volunteer Lawyers Service Program.
