Privacy Laws Could Restrict Deals, Says Report

Global Data Review

18 Jan 2019

Morrison & Foerster partner Christine Lyon explained how new privacy legislation is affecting global dealmaking in the Global Data Review article, “Privacy laws could restrict deals, says report.”

According to Ms. Lyon, companies should also be careful to check whether any data they acquire is considered personal data under new privacy laws, given the “extremely broad definition” of personal data under the GDPR and the CCPA. “A target may say that it only collects machine data or device data, but it’s important to probe further because you may well find that the target is collecting a wealth of data that now would be considered personal data too,” she said.
