Cybersecurity Tops Fund Director Tech Concerns

Morrison & Foerster counsel Kelley A. Howes discusses the practice of regularly reviewing technology to ensure that independent mutual fund directors are up to date with how the mutual fund market is developing and changing—and how the advisers with which they work are themselves keeping up in the Fund Board Views article “Cybersecurity Tops Fund Director Tech Concerns.” Recently, cybersecurity has been top of mind among many directors, but other tech issues such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and machine learning, also are commanding attention in the boardroom.

Howes said, “informally, you always have to be thinking about things from a risk-based perspective, so if a new type of cyber issue comes up, you need to ask: ‘How does this affect us?' It’s worth the board probing that a little bit.”
