Morrison & Foerster associate Daniel Kahan discusses why it is in the best interest of financial institutions to ink with a merger that can help them create the scale they need to remain technologically competitive with Law360 in the article “Need for Tech Emerging as Banking M&A Influencer.”

In considering merger partners’ offerings or when consolidating, banks should look to either acquire or invest in relevant technology platforms that will elevate their customer offerings and enhance back-office performance. "Banks are interested in exploring how to provide new and innovative services to their customers by acquiring or entering into strategic transactions with early-stage technology companies. It's in some ways less risky for banks to do that than trying to divert resources of their own," said Kahan.
