Following a federal judge’s rule, striking down the Affordable Care Act, Big Law clients responded by adding nearly two dozen amicus briefs into the ongoing appeal on Monday, April 1. Morrison & Foerster’s brief was one of six highlighted in The National Law Journal’s article “Here's What Big Law Clients Are Saying About ‘Backward’ Obamacare Ruling.”
The briefs saw some unusual alliances in opposition to the ruling that declared the Obama-era healthcare law unconstitutional, such as two traditionally Republican states and four individual legal academics. A Morrison & Foerster appellate team, led by Joseph Palmore, and including associate Michael Qian, filed the amicus brief opposing the Trump Administration’s attempt to invalidate the ACA. The ruling is being appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
