MoFo’s James M. Peck Honored by Singapore Academy of Law as a Distinguished Speaker
Earlier this month, James M. Peck, global co-chair of Morrison & Foerster’s Business Restructuring & Insolvency Group, traveled to Singapore as the guest of the Singapore Academy of Law and delivered a Distinguished Speaker Lecture on mediation at the Supreme Court of Singapore.
The speech identified ways that mediation can be used as an effective tool for corporate restructuring in Singapore and other advanced commercial jurisdictions. Former Judge Peck’s lecture was followed by a panel discussion with a number of leading insolvency law experts from Singapore that was moderated by Justice Ramesh Kannan of Singapore’s High Court.
During his week-long visit, former Judge Peck was consulted on multiple occasions concerning ways that the practice of insolvency law in Singapore can be further improved. He had meetings with the deans of the two local law schools and with Supreme Court Justices who are concentrating in law reform and cross border insolvency issues. During this very intense week, former Judge Peck also was invited by the Singapore Mediation Center to conduct a master class in the use of mediation in complex restructurings.
