MoFo named by the Financial Times as one of Asia-Pacific’s Most Innovative Law Firms

09 May 2019

Morrison & Foerster received notable recognition in the Financial Times’ 2019 Special Report on Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers.

MoFo was ranked 14th for Legal Expertise and 17th overall on the prestigious FT 2019 list of Asia-Pacific’s most innovative international law firms.

The ranking is the result of a unique research methodology devised by the FT and its research partner RSG Consulting to assess law firms’ innovation both for clients and in their own businesses. The publication received nominations from 81 law firms and legal service providers.

The FT commended MoFo’s work advising Japan Tobacco International (JTI) on its $1.5 billion acquisition of Akij Group, the second-largest cigarette maker in Bangladesh, for innovation in “accessing new markets and capital.” The publication commented that MoFo had “navigated Bangladesh’s strict foreign exchange controls by designing a bespoke structure to enable JTI to buy the tobacco assets using a local entity.”

MoFo’s work advising Chubb on its joint venture with a leading ride-hailing platform in Southeast Asia, Grab, was also commended for originality, leadership, and impact in “enabling business growth and transformation” allowing Chubb to market and sell its insurance products through Grab’s platform to drivers and customers.
