Morrison & Foerster partner Annabel Gillham shared her data protection tips for UK CIOs in the scenario of a no-deal Brexit.Should the UK depart the EU without a deal, there could be an enormous impact on data flow, as the EU will no longer recognize the UK as having adequate protections. Annabel recommends several strategies to prepare for this possibility, advising CIOs to implement standard contractual clauses as the “absolute priority.” Annabel also recommends looking at “the possibility that both [UK and EU] regimes will still apply to you.” She adds: “Just because you’re only based in the UK doesn’t mean that the EU GDPR will not apply anymore.
