Morrison & Foerster partner Jina Choi spoke to Compliance Week about the decrease in whistleblower tips to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) between 2018 and 2019.
Jina discussed recent proposed changes to the SEC’s rules regarding the whistleblower awards application process, which give the SEC more power to reduce awards and could be a reason for the recent decrease in tips. “After the proposed amendments were issued, there were questions about whether the SEC was pulling back its support for the whistleblower program,” Jina said.
