Tritia Murata and Janie Schulman Named Top Labor and Employment Lawyers by Daily Journal
Morrison & Foerster Los Angeles partners Tritia Murata and Janie Schulman have been named Top Labor and Employment Lawyers in 2020 by The Daily Journal. The recognitions follow a strong year by both Tritia and Janie, who have extensive experience and an impressive track record in the area of labor and employment law.
Tritia, co-chair of the firm’s Employment + Labor Group, has litigated a number of complex cases in both state and federal court, involving claims related to alleged wage-and-hour violations, trade secrets misappropriation, employee and customer raiding, and unfair competition. In particular, clients turn to Tritia for her extensive class action experience and impressive track record of successfully defeating class certification in high-exposure wage-and-hour class actions. She has also navigated the complexities of representative actions brought under the Fair Labor Standards Act and representative actions brought under the California Labor Code Private Attorneys General Act of 2004 (PAGA), an example of which can be seen in the recent LaFace v. Ralphs Grocery Company trial, where Tritia and her team won a complete defense verdict. Tritia pursues an aggressive strategy to defeat class certification or otherwise dispose of class and PAGA actions before trial, and has notched successes on behalf of leading clients spanning various industries. Outside of the courtroom, Tritia provides clients with practical, business-minded advice regarding various labor and employment law issues, including wrongful termination, employment discrimination, harassment, wage-and-hour laws, employment policies and procedures, trade secrets, and unfair competition.
Janie, a fellow of the American College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and former co-chair of firm’s Employment + Labor Group, has focused her practice on employment litigation, including cases alleging whistleblower retaliation, trade secrets and employee raiding, and discrimination and harassment. As a trusted advisor for more than 30 years, Janie also has a broad-based counseling practice and provides employment law support on M&A, outsourcing, and other transactions. She has developed experience in employment law issues unique to several industries, including financial services, technology, medical/life sciences, entertainment, retail, and hospitality. Clients appreciate Janie’s effective litigation skills and practical solutions to their employment problems.. Most recently, Janie has played a key role in the firm’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) Task Force, guiding clients with legal and strategic advice related to labor and employment issues as the global health crisis continues to evolve.
