For Firms Donating to Ukraine, Due Diligence is Key
Jamie Levitt spoke to Law360 about The Morrison & Foerster Foundation’s charitable donations in response to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
According to Jamie, having specific goals for how to help is key. In its Ukraine response, The MoFo Foundation donated to organizations that addressed specific needs, including the International Rescue Committee for its focus on assisting refugees, and the World Central Kitchen, which provides meals to those affected by humanitarian crises.
Jamie added that it’s okay to donate to a more general fund, but giving where the money will make the greatest impact doesn’t always mean donating to the largest organization. In her work with The MoFo Foundation, Jamie tries to find charities where a few thousand dollars won’t be just a drop in the bucket.
“Our numbers are big, but we’re not moving millions and millions, and so we want these to be impactful donations that are treating the core issues,” Jamie said. “We want to focus on things that are very much direct aid.”
