Alex Iftimie spoke to the Wall Street Journal about FBI agents infiltrating the networks of Hive, a notorious ransomware group that had demanded hundreds of millions of dollars in ransom payments from its victims, and the agency's campaign asking companies to report any attacks to law enforcement.
"The FBI could have just gone out to arrest individuals and shut down the servers," Alex said. The agency's aim, instead, was to limit harm, even if it meant forgoing a potential arrest down the line, a choice that "speaks volumes to victims."
