MoFo Advises SoftBank in $8.6B Supercell Oy Sale to Tencent

MoFo is advising longtime client SoftBank Corp., which is selling its controlling stake in Finnish gaming company Supercell Oy to Tencent Holdings Ltd for $8.6 billion.

SoftBank acquired a 51% stake in Supercell, creator of mobile games such as Clash of Clans and Hay Day, in 2013 and increased its stake last year to 75%. MoFo advised SoftBank in both of those past transactions, as well as numerous other major M&A transactions.

MoFo's deal team is being led by corporate partner Kenneth Siegel, along with San Francisco-based corporate partner Eric McCrath. Also advising SoftBank are Washington, D.C.-based corporate partner Lauren Bellerjeau, Tokyo corporate partner Ivan Smallwood, and antitrust partners Tom McQuail (Brussels) and Jeff Jaeckel (Washington, D.C.).
