MoFo Claims Four Spots on Daily Journal’s Top Verdicts List

13 Feb 2014

Once again, MoFo has claimed several spots on the Daily Journal’s Top Verdicts list, including the highest plaintiffs’ verdict by dollar amount, two top defense results and one of the top plaintiffs’ verdicts by impact. The annual list pulls together California’s largest jury awards and cases with the most impact.

For the second year in a row, a MoFo IP trial team secured a successful trial result for their client and ranked among the top plaintiffs’ verdict by dollar amount with $290 million in patent infringement damages. That sum brings the total won for the client to $929.8 million, following a landmark jury patent infringement verdict in 2012.

MoFo also nabbed two of the top 20 defense results. After 10 years of litigation, an appeal to the California Supreme Court, two separate decisions from the Court of Appeal, and a six-week trial on the merits, MoFo secured a complete defense victory in a class action seeking $250 million in damages against Monier, Inc. in McAdams v. Monier Group. In addition, in Environmental Law Foundation v. Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. et al., an Alameda County judge issued a decision that rejected an environmental advocacy group's demand for health warnings on baby foods, 100 percent fruit juices and packaged fruit and vegetable products.

MoFo also earned a spot on the Daily Journal’s top 10 plaintiffs’ verdicts by impact list. On behalf of Ubiquiti Networks, MoFo obtained a permanent injunction and final judgment of copyright and trademark infringement against Kozumi USA and Kozumi's owner, William Hsu, which shut down an international counterfeiting scheme.
