MoFo Helps Campari Group Reach for SKYY

12/17/2001
A MoFo team led by Gavin Grover and Michael O'Bryan has helped the Campari Group in its acquisition of Skyy Vodka. Skyy Spirits LLC, maker of SKYY Vodka, announced on December 13, that Milan-based Campari has acquired an additional 50% stake in the company from founder and inventor Maurice Kanbar. The $207.5 M deal brings Campari's interest in Skyy Spirits LLC to a total of 58.9%, making Campari the controlling shareholder. SKYY Vodka is the number two super premium vodka in the United States and one of the fastest-growing in the segment.

Prior to this deal, Campari had held an 8.9% minority interest in Skyy from a strategic alliance formed in 1999 to jointly distribute their products and further their long-terms interests internationally. The minority interest was acquired from company management, who continue to have a minority stake, and from founder Maurice Kanbar.
