Super Lawyers recently announced that MoFo has been named the recipient of a 2013 Pro Bono Award. The annual awards honor individual lawyers, law firms, law students, law schools, and other institutions in the legal profession that provide exemplary volunteer legal services to the poor, underrepresented, or exploited.
We were recognized for contributing more than 90,000 pro bono hours in 2013, including more than 35,000 pro bono hours by lawyers in San Francisco alone. Under the leadership of Jim Brosnahan, our San Francisco office was actively involved in the Right to Civil Counsel Movement (colloquially known as "Civil Gideon"), which advocates for free legal services in cases involving basic human needs such as housing, custody, safety, and health.
The 2013 Super Lawyers Pro Bono Award recipients were chosen by a review committee which evaluated each application based on several factors including legal effort, personal contribution, impact to the law, and innovation. Law students and law programs were evaluated on additional factors such as community outreach and leadership.
