Morrison & Foerster Ranked #1 International Firm by Deal Volume in Japan in Mergermarket’s 2016 League Table

27 Jan 2017

Morrison & Foerster ranked #1 in deal volume among international law firms in Japan in Mergermarket’s 2016 league table. In addition, the firm ranked #1 for deal value among U.S. law firms in Japan.

In 2016, the firm advised clients on 24 deals, with a combined value of $48.7 billion.

Contributing to this success is our ongoing work on behalf of SoftBank on several marquee matters, including SoftBank’s $31.4 billion acquisition of ARM Holdings and $8.6 billion sale of stake in Supercell Oy.

Other highlights including the firm’s representation of TDK in its $3 billion RF filter joint venture with Qualcomm, Toshiba in connection with its $500 million sale of home appliances business to Midea, and Tanaka Kikinzoku in its acquisition of Metalor Technologies, as well as our continued representation of Renesas in its $3.2 billion acquisition of Intersil.

Globally, the firm advised 165 deals, with a combined value of $294 billion. Included in those numbers are 26 deals valued at over a $1 billion, and 78 cross-border transactions.
