Press Release

San Francisco, May 4, 2005Morrison & Foerster has announced that its Litigation Department will formalize and expand its existing forensic accounting capabilities by forming a Forensic Accounting Services Group.  Eric Roberts, who is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner, will serve as Director of the group.  Mr. Roberts specializes in cases involving the securities laws and in providing assistance with internal investigations.

"Forensic accountants will add value to Morrison & Foerster’s accounting and financial related matters by assisting in audit committee and SEC investigations, identifying and interpreting financial and accounting matters, evaluating expert reports, and consulting on Sarbanes-Oxley and internal control issues," says Mr. Roberts.

This area of expertise is not new to Morrison & Foerster.  The firm has had forensic accounting resources for several years, but with the changing corporate culture associated with Sarbanes Oxley, the firm has decided to formalize its in-house accounting consulting function.  "The formation of the Forensic Accounting Service Group allows us to expand these services to bring additional value to both litigation and corporate clients of the firm," says Lori Schechter, Chair of the Litigation Department.

Mr. Roberts has assisted in the representation of over 100 companies, officers, directors, and other institutions in all types of cases, including securities class actions, derivative actions, enforcement proceedings commenced by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and often regulatory and criminal matters.  He has conducted or assisted in approximately 15 internal investigations for public companies and their directors.  Before joining the firm, Mr. Roberts was at Deloitte & Touche for nearly 20 years, first as an audit partner, and then as the partner in charge of the Northern California Litigation Support Practice.  Mr. Roberts graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BS degree in 1967 and an MBA in 1968.
