Tokyo - April 4, 2001 -- Morrison & Foerster LLP announced today the formation of a joint enterprise with the Japanese law firm of Ito & Mitomi. The joint enterprise will provide U.S. and Japanese law advice on multi-jurisdictional transactional matters. With 35 U.S. and Japanese-qualified lawyers resident in the office, Morrison & Foerster, in conjunction with Ito & Mitomi, has one of the largest presences of any international law firm in Tokyo. The firm represents leading Japanese and U.S. companies such as Fujitsu, Softbank, Toshiba, Goldman Sachs, Itochu and Sumitomo on a wide range of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, securities, project finance and litigation. Mr. Fuyuo Mitomi, who joins the joint enterprise, is one of the most highly respected securities lawyers in Japan. Tokyo Managing Partner Ken Siegel commented: "Although we have been considering establishing a joint enterprise for some time, we had until now not been able to identify the right person with whom to start the venture. We have worked with Mr. Mitomi for years and we're delighted to add someone with his experience and expertise to our Japan practice. This new enterprise will allow us to better serve our clients, expand our existing securities practice and continue to grow our Tokyo office." Mr. Mitomi is a 1972 graduate of the law faculty of Tokyo University, has an LLM from Harvard Law School and worked as a foreign extern at Morrison & Foerster in the 1970's. Since the early 1980's, he has been a name partner at the Tokyo firm of Tomotsune Kimura & Mitomi.
