Morrison & Foerster Signs Lease as Anchor Tenant at Innovative New Building at 250 West 55th Street in New York

24 May 2011

NEW YORK (May 24, 2011) – Morrison & Foerster LLP announced today that it has signed a lease as the anchor tenant at 250 West 55th Street, an innovative office and retail tower developed by Boston Properties specifically with the business of major law firms in mind. The environmentally friendly building (pre-certified as LEED Gold) has a center core that features a two-story podium with a landscaped rooftop garden on the third floor, finished ceiling heights of ten feet, as well as destination-driven elevators.

Morrison & Foerster’s move to the city’s newest property reflects the firm’s continued growth in both attorneys and business in recent years as well as its long-term commitment to the New York market. The approximately 1-million-square-foot, 40-story glass tower was designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill.

"New York is a key financial center and occupies a prominent place in the growth strategy of Morrison & Foerster. This move accommodates our expanding needs and provides us with a state-of-the-art space from which to continue to provide our clients with high-level, innovative legal advice and superior service, as well as a great working environment for our attorneys and staff," said Charles Kerr, managing partner of Morrison & Foerster’s New York office.

Kerr added: "We have the utmost confidence that Boston Properties will construct and run a building of the highest quality and look forward to a very positive long-term relationship with our future landlord."

Morrison & Foerster signed a 15-year lease for approximately 180,000 square feet on floors 17-23, with support space in the concourse level. The firm will also have the ability to add two floors, or nearly 50,000 square feet, before the building is completed. There are also additional options throughout the term of the lease allowing for more space. The building is scheduled to open for occupancy in the second quarter of 2014 and the firm expects to move into the completed building in the spring of 2014.

Morrison & Foerster real estate partner Mark Edelstein led the lease negotiations on behalf of the firm along with partners John McCarthy and Peter Aitelli.
