Prominent Tax Attorney Gary W. Maeder Joins Morrison & Foerster in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (December 1, 2007) – Gary W. Maeder has joined Morrison & Foerster LLP as a partner in the Los Angeles office. An experienced and highly regarded tax practitioner, Mr. Maeder brings more than 30 years of expertise to Morrison & Foerster’s West Coast Tax Practice. He joins the firm from Heller Ehrman LLP, where he practiced for 11 years and served for 3 years as co-chair of Heller’s Tax Practice Group.

Mr. Maeder’s tax practice consists of advising partnerships, limited liability companies, S corporations, and public and closely held C corporations on a variety of federal, state, and local tax issues. He has notable experience in matters involving advance rulings, audits, and appeals before the Internal Revenue Service and various state and local government agencies.

Thomas A. Humphreys, co-chair of the firm’s Tax Department, commented: “Gary is an experienced tax practitioner with a wide range of tax knowledge. His addition to the Los Angeles office will give our tax department added depth on the West Coast and enable us to continue to serve our clients with a high level of tax expertise. Mr. Maeder provides a broad range of tax planning and controversy services in the areas of federal income and employment tax matters and state and local income, franchise, sales and use, property, documentary transfer, business license, and employment tax matters. He has represented many clients, including Adelante Capital Management, Lockheed Federal Credit Union, Marketocracy, Obagi Medical Products, Public Storage, Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., and World Vision International.
