SAN FRANCISCO (April 1, 2014) – Morrison & Foerster has named Rebekah Kaufman, a partner in the firm's San Francisco office, co-chair of the firm's 500-lawyer global Litigation Department. She joins San Diego partner Don Rushing, who has served as co-chair since May 2013, and succeeds San Francisco partner Arturo González, who served as co-chair since 2010.
Ms. Kaufman, former head of the firm's Consumer Litigation and Class Action Practice Group, is an accomplished litigator whose practice focuses on defending retailers, manufacturers, and digital media companies against false advertising and privacy class actions. She has successfully defended clients in disputes involving various state unfair competition, false advertising, wiretapping, privacy, and consumer fraud laws in federal and state courts throughout the United States.
"Rebekah is an extraordinarily talented and versatile lawyer, who is recognized both within the firm and in the legal community for her track record of success and client advocacy," said Larren M. Nashelsky, chair of Morrison & Foerster. "She has had substantial experience leading one of the firm's busiest practices and was therefore a natural choice to help lead the Litigation Department."
Ms. Kaufman assumes leadership of a department that is consistently recognized as having one of the premier litigation practices in the world by The American Lawyer, Chambers, The National Law Journal, Legal 500, Law360, Benchmark Litigation, and other prominent publications. Showcasing the depth and breadth of Morrison & Foerster's practice, the editors of U.S. News/Best Lawyers annual "Best Law Firms" report ranked the firm in the top tier nationally in 12 separate litigation practices in its most recent edition.
"The firm's Litigation Department has continued as a powerhouse under Arturo's direction," said Mr. Nashelsky. "I know Rebekah and Don will continue to build upon the noteworthy accomplishments we've seen under Arturo's leadership, and we thank him for his tireless work. We are already on track for another excellent year."
"I am honored to be moving into this role at the firm," said Ms. Kaufman. "MoFo continues to set a global standard of excellence in representing clients on their most complex litigation matters. I look forward to collaborating with Don as we continue to deliver top-notch litigation services to our clients worldwide."
Ms. Kaufman earned her J.D. from The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law, her M.A. from Ohio State University, and her B.A. from Barnard College of Columbia University. She is the founder of the firm's Private Surgeon General Class Action Defender blog (www.privatesurgeongeneral.com), which provides robust case information and industry analysis of false advertising and false labeling class action cases. She regularly speaks at conferences and participates in panel discussions addressing cutting-edge developments in privacy and false advertising class actions.
