Laura Lively is an associate in the Litigation Department of Morrison Foerster’s Los Angeles office.

Laura represents clients in high-stakes litigation across a broad range of civil and criminal matters in both federal and state court, and on appeal. Laura’s trial practice includes representing clients on both sides of complex commercial disputes in arbitral tribunals and courts throughout the country. She has specialized skills in representing private and public entities in disputes spanning consumer class actions, data privacy, intellectual property, and general business litigation. Laura has briefed cases and authored amicus briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court and federal and state appellate courts across the country, and she has successfully presented oral argument in the Ninth Circuit.

Laura also conducts internal and government-facing investigations. She often represents clients across from state and federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies in parallel civil litigation and in regulatory proceedings. Prior to joining the firm, she was a managing associate on a team led by former acting U.S. Attorney General Sally Yates, which conducted a yearlong independent investigation into abuse and misconduct in U.S. women’s professional soccer.

Laura clerked for Chief Judge Sidney R. Thomas of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. During law school, she worked as a research assistant to Dean and Distinguished Professor of Law Erwin Chemerinsky and was a style editor for the UC Irvine Law Review. Laura graduated with Pro Bono Honors in recognition of her advocacy work for veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and children with disabilities.

Laura maintains a robust pro bono practice, teaches courses at UC Irvine School of Law, and serves on the board of the California Women’s Law Center.
