Rex Niswander, of counsel in Morrison & Foerster's New York office, is a corporate lawyer primarily engaged in representing non-U.S. clients and their U.S. subsidiaries. He has broad experience in general corporate and commercial matters for clients in the pharmaceutical, electronics, financial, manufacturing, media, and other industries. In addition, he represents U.S. and foreign clients in U.S. immigration matters, including non-immigrant (H-1, L, E, TN, O) business visas, student and trainee (F, J, H-3) visas, and related matters.

Mr. Niswander has extensive experience with the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and its application to the financial transactions of sovereign entities and multilateral organizations. His practice includes advising foreign sovereigns and their agencies in documenting and negotiating agreements relating to their U.S. investment activities.

Mr. Niswander is a 1976 graduate of the University of Kansas, where he majored in Chinese and East Asian Studies, and a 1982 graduate of Columbia University School of Law, where he was an International Fellow, Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, Teaching Fellow, and an Editor of the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law. In 1982, he also completed Columbia University's Parker Program in International and Foreign Law, receiving Recognition of Achievement with Honors. Mr. Niswander studied at Taiwan Normal University from 1974 to 1975 and at Tsukuba University in Japan from 1978 to 1979. From 1986 to 1989 he was a foreign legal consultant with a law firm in Tokyo.
