Wataru Shimizu is an of counsel of Morrison Foerster Law Offices. Wataru’s practice focuses on matters relating to labor and employment laws, including designing terms and conditions of employment, reduction in force, and labor disputes.

Wataru has also been involved in domestic and international litigation and a range of cross-border corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions. He has experience working in-house on part-time secondment to U.S.-based companies in the automotive and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as to a Japanese finance leasing company.

Wataru received his LL.B. from Waseda University in 2003 and completed his training at the Legal Training and Research Institute of the Supreme Court of Japan in 2008 (61st trainee). He received his LL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2016. Wataru is a bengoshi admitted to practice in Japan and is a member of the Dai-ni Tokyo Bar Association.
