Shaelyn Dawson is an attorney in the litigation department, with a focus on intellectual property. Ms. Dawson has represented clients in copyright and patent cases in the electronics, semiconductor, and pharmaceutical industries. Ms. Dawson has coordinated fact and expert discovery, taken and defended fact and expert depositions, drafted motions in multiparty litigation in federal courts across the country, participated in trial preparation, and questioned witnesses at trial.

In addition to her intellectual property work, Ms. Dawson also maintains an active pro bono practice, and has been awarded the Wiley W. Manuel Certificate for Pro Bono Legal Services by the State Bar of California for the last two years.

Ms. Dawson received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 2012 where she had a merit scholarship. While at Fordham, she served as the Senior Articles Editor for the Fordham International Law Journal. She received her LL.M. (Intellectual Property) from New York University School of Law in 2013.

Prior to joining Morrison and Foerster, Ms. Dawson served in a two-year term as a clerk to the Honorable Evan Wallach of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Ms. Dawson is admitted to practice law in California and before the Federal Circuit.

  • (Northern District of California). Won a jury verdict, a California federal jury cleared VMware of all claims in a copyright and breach of contract trial involving input/output software.

  • (Eastern District of Texas). Represented NetApp in a multi-patent infringement suit brought by a non-practicing entity Realtime, achieving a favorable settlement for NetApp.
