Please join the Jewish Bar Association of San Francisco and Morrison Foerster for a panel discussion of the Supreme Court’s recent religion cases, focusing on Carson v. Makin,142 S.Ct. 1987 (June 21, 2022) (reversing the First Circuit and holding that Maine’s “nonsectarian” requirement for generally available tuition assistance violates the First Amendment’s Free Exercise Clause) and Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, 142 S.Ct. 2407 (June 27, 2022) (reversing the Ninth Circuit and holding that a school district’s firing of a football coach for kneeling in prayer at midfield after games violated the Free Exercise and Free Speech Clauses of the First Amendment). The panel will also discuss the relevance of these rulings to Jews and other religious minorities.
