Nathan Vogler is a Partner in the firm’s Patent Group and heads the patent group’s Materials Science and Energy Storage practice. His practice concentrates on domestic and international patent prosecution, IP due diligence, IP counseling, IP portfolio management, and IP litigation support including patent infringement and validity determinations. Nathan has handled matters in all stages of patent prosecution, including new application drafting, office action responses, patent appeals, and continuation and divisional filings. He has drafted and prosecuted patents in various technology areas, including polymer chemistry, composite materials, industrial processing, nanotechnology, catalysts, batteries, magnets, consumer electronics, and software. In addition, Nathan has experience handling reexaminations, reissue applications, and supplemental examinations before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.In addition to his patent prosecution experience, Nathan also has considerable experience in adversarial proceedings before the USPTO including inter partes review proceedings instituted by the America Invents Act. He has experience representing both Petitioners and Patent Owners, and has represented clients in all stages of the proceedings, such as drafting petitions, patent owner responses, expert depositions, and oral hearings before the PTAB.Representative completed post-grant matters include the following:<ul><li>IPR2021-00210, -00211, -00213: Successfully defended patent owner Malvern against three inter partes reviews, resulting in petition denials.</li><li>IPR2017-01312: Successfully defended patent owner HML. The USPTO found all claims patentable in a final written decision.</li><li>IPR2014-01266, -01313: Defended patent owner HML against two inter partes reviews by different parties, resulting in claim survival or petition denial.</li></ul>Nathan received his J.D. with high honors from The George Washington University Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and was a member of the George Washington Law Review. He received his B.S. in chemical engineering, with a minor in chemistry, summa cum laude from Purdue University. While in law school, Mr. Vogler was a summer associate at Morrison Foerster.Nathan is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Virginia and District of Columbia and is registered to practice before the USPTO.

Jacob is a corporate associate in Morrison Foerster’s Boston office.Prior to joining the firm, Jacob was a summer associate in the Boston office in the summer of 2022.Jacob earned his J.D. from Boston University School of Law. He also holds a B.A. from Michigan State University.

Lea’s practice focuses on patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling for a variety of technologies and medical devices.Prior to joining the firm as an associate, Lea was a summer associate in the Boston office for the Two-Summer Patent Program in the summers of 2021 and 2022.She received her J.D. from the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce School of Law with an intellectual property law certificate. As a student, she served as the Vol. 63 editor-in-chief of IDEA: The Law Review of the Franklin Pierce Center of Intellectual Property. While in law school, Lea also worked as a legal writing teaching and research assistant, where she conducted legal research, developed writing case files, and drafted example memorandums.Lea earned her B.S. in biomedical engineering from the Honors College at Rutgers University. While completing her degree, Lea worked as a research assistant. There, she formulated transdermal patches for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and conducted skin permeation studies using Franz diffusion cells. Additionally, she was a formulation sciences intern where she continued her work using Franz diffusion cells and quantified drug retention in skin for different animal health products. Lea was subsequently recognized for her engineering senior design project, which focused on programming a smart walking cane with a load cell and mobile application to monitor cyclic load applied to the cane for patient recovery.

Tricia Matibag is an associate in the Boston office of Morrison Foerster and a member of the firm’s Technology Transactions Group.Prior to joining the firm, Tricia was a Technology Consultant at Deloitte in Toronto, Canada.Tricia earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, she served as a student attorney for the Cyberlaw Clinic, based at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce, magna cum laude, from the University of Ottawa, where she earned the Pythian MIS Scholarship.

Patricia Perez Elias is a corporate associate in the Boston office of Morrison Foerster.Patricia focuses on public and private mergers and acquisitions, early- and late-stage financings, and general corporate advice.Prior to joining the firm, Patricia was a corporate associate at another major law firm, where she advised on transactions including mergers, acquisitions, and financings.Patricia earned her B.A., magna cum laude, from Boston University. She earned her J.D. at Northeastern University School of Law, where she served as a senior staff member of Northeastern University Law Review.Patricia speaks Spanish with native proficiency.

Elena Klonoski is an associate in Morrison Foerster’s Boston office and a member of the firm’s FDA + Healthcare Regulatory and Compliance practice.Elena works with life sciences and food companies to address their most challenging issues. She works broadly across the spectrum of U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA)-regulated products, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, dietary supplements, and food products. Her healthcare regulatory work includes compliance with federal regulation governing health information technology and state law governing the practice of medicine.In addition to her FDA-focused work, Elena works with the firm’s Investigations + White Collar Defense practice on healthcare-related enforcement matters. Prior to joining Morrison Foerster, Elena was a legal intern and extern at the Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic (FLPC). She prepared materials for and presented on FLPC’s 2023 Farm Bill recommendations to Congressional staff members. Elena was also a legal intern at a cannabis advisory firm, where she researched and wrote internal memos and drafted client letters on various cannabis business legal questions. Before law school, Elena worked at a nonprofit organization in Massachusetts where she organized large-scale events that promoted local food companies.Elena earned her J.D. from Boston University and her B.A. cum laude from Connecticut College. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta International Honor Society of Sociology and received Honors Study and Distinction in the Major Field.
