EU Whistleblowing Directive – Where Are We Now?
Alja Poler De Zwart and Dan Alam authored an article for Fraud Intelligence about the European Union Whistleblowing Directive. Despite the impending deadline of December 17, 2021, a large majority of member states have not yet implemented the Directive into local law.
“The Directive is a positive step forward for the protection of whistleblowers,” the authors wrote. “Businesses should also view the Directive as an opportunity to uncover illegal behavior within their organization, prevent further escalation of such behavior, and minimize potential negative consequences for the organization and its reputation. It is in everyone’s interest – whistleblowers, public and private organizations, and governments – for EU Member States to implement the Directive into their national legislation sooner rather than later.”
