Haitian Mayor Tortured and Murdered Rivals, Boston Jury Told

Law360 quoted Bonnie Lau from her arguments in a suit against the former mayor of Les Irois, Haiti Jean Morose Viliena, over allegations he was involved in murdering, torturing, and burning the homes of his political opponents.
“Defendant Viliena abused his position as mayor of Les Irois,” Bonnie told the jury. “He committed murder, torture and arson with his associates. His only defense is not corroborated, and it is not credible.”
Along with the Center for Justice and Accountability (CJA) and Dentons US LLP, with support from the Bureau des Avocats Internationaux (BAI), a Haitian human rights organization, Bonnie is co-counsel for the victims of Viliena’s crimes and their relatives: David Boniface, Juders Ysemé, and Nissandère Martyr.
