Susan Mac Cormac was quoted in a Law360 article discussing the signing of California’s new climate disclosure-related bills into law by Governor Gavin Newsom. These first-in-the-nation laws will require large companies doing business in California to publicly disclose their greenhouse gas emissions.
Suz mentioned that S.B. 253 and S.B. 261 are critical in pushing climate reporting forward in the United States. She also noted that California’s reporting requirements apply to both public and private companies
“Investors look for clear guidance and standards when it comes to measuring and reporting ESG factors — these bills provide a consistent timeline and path to benchmark greenhouse gases and climate‑related financial risks for applicable companies, including those already disclosing climate data on a voluntary basis,” Suz added.
