Carrie Cohen spoke to The New York Times regarding former U.S. Congressman George Santos’ campaign finance misconduct and how it highlights weaknesses in the system. She noted that the extent of Santos’ reported campaign finance misconduct might never have been discovered except for the fact that people started paying attention to his back story.
“All this came to light because there were so many other complaints against him,” Carrie said. She went on to say that otherwise, it can be hard for the F.E.C. or federal prosecutors to spot wrongdoing in campaign finance reports.
