Marcia Ellis has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Diversity & Inclusion: Outstanding Contribution category as part of the Chambers Asia Pacific and Greater China Region DEI Awards 2024. These awards shine a spotlight on firms and individuals who are furthering the advancement of diversity and inclusion across the region.
Marcia Ellis, partner and global co-chair of MoFo’s Private Equity Group, is one of the most experienced M&A lawyers active in the Asia market – having advised on deals with total aggregate value well exceeding US$265 billion in the last three years alone. As global co-chair, Marcia has helped build MoFo’s private equity offering into the thriving, diverse practice it is today.
Marcia is an avid mentor to women and other lawyers at MoFo, both formally by acting as a mentor in MoFo’s Odyssey Program and informally through one-on-one sessions. She also leads MoFo’s Diversity Internship Program in Hong Kong, which provides internship opportunities to first and second-year LLB students in the city identifying as ethnic minorities, and championed the creation of MoFo’s Transactional University, an intensive training program for M&A associates and trainees.
Outside MoFo, Marcia has acted as co-chair of the American Chamber of Commerce (“AmCham”) Women of Influence Steering Committee (WOI) in Hong Kong since 2022. In this role, Marcia spearheaded an interview skills program that supports first generation university students. This year, Marcia also guided the launch of WOI’s first Mentorship Program for Women Undergrads, which will allow mentees to gain valuable insights, guidance, and support from AmCham women members. Marcia is also dedicated to pro bono work and recently led a team that dedicated more than 800 hours to assisting the Justice Centre Hong Kong in compiling a database that summarizes and analyzes case law relating to immigration detention in Hong Kong.
This year’s winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, which will be held at the W Hotel, Hong Kong, on May 29, 2024. View the full shortlist for the Chambers Asia-Pacific and Greater China Region Awards 2024.
