AmLaw Ranks MoFo Case as “One of the Very Best”

AmLaw highlighted Morrison Foerster’s educational equity case in California as exemplifying the “very best” law firm pro bono efforts in the United States in 2023. The accolade appears in the annual Pro Bono Report issued by American Lawyer magazine in July.
MoFo and Public Counsel filed the Cayla J. case in 2020 to address severe educational inequity resulting from the state of California’s failure to ensure access to the devices and connectivity essential to remote learning during the pandemic—inequity whose lasting results has particularly disadvantaged low-income children of color. The suit was resolved with a settlement that directs $2 billion toward identifying the children most affected by pandemic-related learning loss and providing them with evidence-based instruction to remedy the harms they suffered.
