The Law Society of Hong Kong has once again honored Morrison Foerster with the Gold Law Firm Award as part of its 2024 Pro Bono and Community Work Recognition Programme. MoFo is one of only 19 law firms in Hong Kong that met the threshold for the Gold Law Firm Award, which is based on the number of pro bono hours contributed by lawyers in the office. Tim is a partner in Morrison Foerster’s Securities Litigation and Investigations + White Collar Defense groups. His practice focuses on government and internal investigations and complex commercial litigation and international arbitration matters. He is the former managing partner of the Hong Kong office.With more than 20 years of experience in the U.S. and Asia, Tim represents companies and individuals in complex dispute-related matters, including government and internal investigations, regulatory proceedings, securities class action lawsuits, international arbitrations, and other complex litigation mandates. He has represented multinational and Chinese clients in various industries, including telecommunications, biotechnology, publishing, pharmaceuticals, and financial services. Tim is a member of the firm’s FCPA + Global Anti-Corruption and Global Ethics + Compliance teams. Tim has practiced in New York, California, and Hong Kong, handling fraud, misrepresentation, breach of contract, securities litigation, investment disputes, commercial arbitration, and enforcement-related matters – from inception through trial. Sylvia regularly advises both managers and investors in the formation and operation of private equity funds, venture capital funds, real estate funds, and other alternative investment products, as well as related regulatory considerations. Sylvia is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.<h4 dir="ltr">Representative Experience</h4><ul><li dir="ltr">GLP Pte. Ltd. Matthew’s practice focuses on the structuring of cross‑border M&A transactions and corporate reorganizations, particularly involving the United States, China, Japan, and the rest of the Asia‑Pacific region. He specializes in guiding clients through the intricacies of cross‑border transaction structures and intellectual property management from a tax perspective.Matthew has deep experience advising fund sponsors and institutional investors on tax issues relating to the formation of, and investments in, private equity funds, venture capital funds, real estate funds, and other alternative investment products. He has particular expertise in the U.S. taxation of government‑linked investors such as sovereign wealth funds and central banks.Matthew has represented multinational corporations and funds in transactions across more than 30 jurisdictions covering a wide range of industries, including technology, telecommunications, healthcare, real estate, consumer, media, and energy.Matthew is a Registered Foreign Lawyer with the Law Society of Hong Kong.While at Columbia Law School, Matthew was a three‑year Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
