MoFo’s Global Co-Chair of Private Equity Group Marcia Ellis and Private Equity/M&A associate Yilong Luo were quoted in a Mergermarket article titled “Regulatory Lawyers Lead Charge in China-Europe M&A Rebound.”
According to Marcia, as Europe remains wary of Chinese investments’ impact on European industries, changes to European foreign direct investment (FDI) regulations to make it easier for Chinese investors to invest in Europe are not yet on the agenda, despite the shift in political sentiment and investment appetite.
Yilong echoed this situation by discussing the proactive strategies Chinese investors are employing to navigate the complex regulatory landscape. “A lot of Chinese investors now have a strong self-awareness of what targets to spend their time and money on…This contrasts to the years previous, when not much thought was given.” said Yilong.
The article also reports a significant increase in China-Europe deal volume, tripling in 2024 compared to the previous year and reaching EUR 28.5 billion. This growth is driven by Chinese investors seeking diversification, access to advanced technology and broader market opportunities in Europe.
