Morrison Foerster, in conjunction with Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Pasadena and Altadena Tenants Unions against Los Angeles County and the city of Pasadena for failing to properly inspect tenant homes after the Eaton Fire and for not making property owners decontaminate them.
Whitney O’Byrne told Law360 that the goal of the lawsuits is to hold the defendants “accountable for upholding every tenant's fundamental right to a safe and habitable home.”
She stated, “By neglecting to inspect for ash, soot, and dust, and by failing to require landlords to properly clean affected residences, these government agencies are abandoning their duty to protect some of the most vulnerable residents impacted by the wildfires.”
