Jason Sanderson is a partner in the Emerging Companies + Venture Capital Group based in San Francisco.With nearly two decades of experience as a corporate lawyer, primarily practicing in the venture space, Jason assists innovative companies in navigating a wide range of corporate and transactional matters, including formation and general corporate governance, operations and commercial transactions, and financing and M&A transactions.In addition to his work with companies, Jason advises venture capital funds, family offices, and angel investors on their investments in emerging companies and fund formation and structuring matters. Sean Ross is a Corporate associate in Morrison Foerster’s Denver office and a member of the firm’s Emerging Companies + Venture Capital Group.Sean’s practice is dedicated to supporting emerging companies, startups and venture capital investors, with an industry focus in the consumer products space. He works closely with founders supporting his clients’ business growth and strategy from formation to exit.Sean earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where he was a board member of the Entertainment & Sports Law Society. He played varsity ice hockey at Wesleyan University, where he received his B.A. in government, economics, and data analysis. Boris Segalis is a partner in Morrison Foerster’s Cyber, Data + Privacy Group. He advises companies at the intersection of data, technology, and regulation, helping them navigate complex legal frameworks while building and scaling data-driven products and services.As a leading privacy and cybersecurity lawyer, Boris’s practice is focused on issues where the law is evolving and the answers are not always clear. He works with clients to apply existing regulatory regimes to new technologies and business models, particularly in areas such as AI, data monetization, digital platforms, and emerging financial technologies. His work spans strategic product counseling, corporate transactions, and high-stakes regulatory matters, including representing companies in investigations by the Federal Trade Commission, state attorneys general, and global regulators.Clients rely on Boris for compliance advice and for practical guidance on how to operate in uncertain environments, whether designing new products, assessing regulatory risk, or responding to government scrutiny. William Wilson is a partner in the Technology Transactions Group in the New York office of Morrison Foerster.William provides guidance to startups, major corporations, and venture capital and private equity investors. His practice spans business and technology transactions, including counseling, as well as structuring and negotiating deals across various industries, with a specialized emphasis on the Fintech, software, and technology sectors.William provides legal representation across the entirety of a company’s lifecycle, from general corporate and IP counseling, to early- and late-stage financings, to exit event. As an active participant in the venture ecosystem, William is involved with various startup accelerators and incubators, including MIT Delta V, NYU Endless Frontier Labs, and Spark Cleantech Accelerator.William’s practice covers all aspects of technology and intellectual property counseling, including strategic licensing, artificial intelligence, technology transactions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and intellectual property strategy and protection. He also has substantial experience in intellectual property and commercial matters related to strategic mergers, acquisitions, and corporate divestitures.William has served as a guest lecturer at numerous institutions, such as Columbia University, Brown University, New York University, Washington University in St. Louis, and University of Tennessee. James Brower is a partner in Morrison Foerster’s Litigation Department, residing in the Washington D.C. office.James has extensive experience advising and representing clients in matters relating to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and other national security-related matters. He has worked across a variety of departments within the U.S. Federal Government, including the Defense Security Service (now the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency) within the Department of Defense and the Office of Investment Security within the Department of the Treasury. James, while with the Department of the Treasury, led the review, assessment, and investigation of over one hundred transactions and spent years handling complex filings, transactions, and policies. He also led CFIUS’s mitigation monitoring efforts and the deployment and implementation of the CFIUS Pilot Program.Directly prior to joining Morrison Foerster, James worked at a global law firm representing clients before CFIUS advising clients on various policies and processes in compliance with federal statutes, and leading engagements with the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency.James received his B.A. in English as well as Government and International Politics from George Mason University, and his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School.

James Brower

Kathryn’s practice focuses on advising clients on complex privacy, cybersecurity, and data strategy matters, including compliance with U.S. and global data protection laws and the deployment of AI and emerging technologies.She has supported data-intensive transactions and end-to-end incident response efforts across industries, including coordinating forensic investigations, regulatory engagement, notification, and post-incident remediation. She regularly counsels multinational companies and startups on operationalizing privacy and AI compliance, drafting privacy notices and data protection agreements, and structuring data-driven products and services.Kathryn received her J.D. from New York University (NYU) School of Law, where she served on the Journal of Legislation & Public Policy. During law school, she completed a U.S. policy internship with Access Now, where she conducted research on dark patterns, facial recognition, AI, and data protection. She externed with the New York Attorney General’s Office in the Bureau of Internet and Technology and spent two semesters engaged in clinical work for the American Civil Liberties Union’s Speech, Privacy & Technology Project via NYU’s Technology Law & Policy Clinic.Before law school, Kathryn served as an associate at Goldman Sachs in Cybersecurity Regulation, Policy & Strategy and previously as a James C. Gaither Junior Fellow in Cyber, Technology, and Nuclear Policy at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. She received her B.A. summa cum laude in international studies and computer science from Emory University.
