Jason Sanderson is a partner in the Emerging Companies + Venture Capital Group based in San Francisco.With nearly two decades of experience as a corporate lawyer, primarily practicing in the venture space, Jason assists innovative companies in navigating a wide range of corporate and transactional matters, including formation and general corporate governance, operations and commercial transactions, and financing and M&A transactions.In addition to his work with companies, Jason advises venture capital funds, family offices, and angel investors on their investments in emerging companies and fund formation and structuring matters. His experience includes participation in nearly 1,000 venture capital financings across the US, UK, and other jurisdictions.Jason’s experience also extends to domestic and international M&A transactions, where he has successfully handled deals ranging from small tuck-in acquisitions and acqui-hires to billion-dollar mergers and sales.Jason earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and his B.A., magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Rochester.

Sean Ross is a corporate associate in Morrison Foerster’s Denver office.Before joining Morrison Foerster, Sean served as a judicial intern for the Colorado Supreme Court, where he researched and wrote certiorari memoranda, and as a legal intern for the Arizona Coyotes, formerly of the National Hockey League. He also participated in Morrison Foerster’s summer associate program.Sean earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where he was a board member of the Entertainment & Sports Law Society. Sean played varsity ice hockey at Wesleyan University, where he received his B.A. in government, economics, and data analysis.

Boris Segalis is a partner in Morrison Foerster’s Privacy + Data Security Group. For over a dozen years, he has counseled clients on privacy and cybersecurity issues in the context of strategic product advice, corporate transactions, and regulatory investigations.Boris regularly advises clients on the development and implementation of data-driven products and services, on global privacy and cybersecurity compliance, and on handling cyber incidents affecting companies and users globally. Boris also regularly defends companies in U.S. federal, state, and global privacy and cybersecurity investigations, including representing clients in front of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the New York and California attorneys general, and foreign regulators.Boris’s practice focuses on advising clients on the requirements of a variety of U.S. privacy and cybersecurity laws, including the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA) and other U.S. state privacy laws; state cybersecurity requirements such as the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS)’s Cybersecurity Regulation; the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA); the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); CAN-SPAM; NIST’s Cybersecurity Framework (CFS); the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA); and the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA). Boris Segalis

William Wilson is a partner in the Technology Transactions Group in the New York office of Morrison Foerster.William provides guidance to startups, major corporations, and venture capital and private equity investors. His practice spans business and technology transactions, including counseling, as well as structuring and negotiating deals across various industries, with a specialized emphasis on the Fintech, software, and technology sectors.William provides legal representation across the entirety of a company’s lifecycle, from general corporate and IP counseling, to early- and late-stage financings, to exit event. As an active participant in the venture ecosystem, William is involved with various startup accelerators and incubators, including MIT Delta V, NYU Endless Frontier Labs, and Spark Cleantech Accelerator.William’s practice covers all aspects of technology and intellectual property counseling, including strategic licensing, artificial intelligence, technology transactions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and intellectual property strategy and protection. He also has substantial experience in intellectual property and commercial matters related to strategic mergers, acquisitions, and corporate divestitures.William has served as a guest lecturer at numerous institutions, such as Columbia University, Brown University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Tennessee, and 1500 Sound Academy. His lectures span topics from technology transactions and venture capital to artificial intelligence and startup matters.William is recognized as a Recommended Lawyer for Patent Licensing by The Legal 500 United States. William Wilson

James Brower is a partner in Morrison Foerster’s Litigation Department, residing in the Washington D.C. office.James has extensive experience advising and representing clients in matters relating to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and other national security-related matters. He has worked across a variety of departments within the U.S. Federal Government, including the Defense Security Service (now the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency) within the Department of Defense and the Office of Investment Security within the Department of the Treasury. James, while with the Department of the Treasury, led the review, assessment, and investigation of over one hundred transactions and spent years handling complex filings, transactions, and policies. He also led CFIUS’s mitigation monitoring efforts and the deployment and implementation of the CFIUS Pilot Program.Directly prior to joining Morrison Foerster, James worked at a global law firm representing clients before CFIUS advising clients on various policies and processes in compliance with federal statutes, and leading engagements with the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency.James received his B.A. in English as well as Government and International Politics from George Mason University, and his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School.

James Brower

Kathryn Taylor is an associate in the firm’s Privacy + Data Security Practice Group and is based in the New York office.Kathryn’s practice focuses on advising clients on privacy and cybersecurity issues, including compliance with U.S. and European privacy and data protection laws and strategies for implementing AI and other emerging technologies. Kathryn received her J.D. from New York University (NYU) School of Law, where she served on the Journal of Legislation & Public Policy. During law school, she completed a U.S. policy internship with Access Now, where she conducted research on dark patterns, facial recognition, AI, and data protection. She externed with the New York Attorney General’s Office in the Bureau of Internet and Technology and spent two semesters engaged in clinical work for the American Civil Liberties Union’s Speech, Privacy & Technology Project via NYU’s Technology Law & Policy Clinic.Before law school, Kathryn served as an associate at Goldman Sachs in Cybersecurity Regulation, Policy & Strategy and previously as a James C. Gaither Junior Fellow in Cyber, Technology, and Nuclear Policy at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. She received her B.A. summa cum laude in international studies and computer science from Emory University.
