Ali Connaughton spoke to Law360 about the recent surge in investments in private real estate investment trusts (REITs). She noted that private REITs appeal to investors because of their exemption from a state regulatory regime that applies only to public non-listed REITs.
"It's a very strange result," Ali said. "They're very regulated and transparent, but are forced to go through the state review process, which is time-consuming and difficult for issuers."
