The University of San Francisco School of Law has named Morrison Foerster partner Matthew Chivvis the 2025 recipient of the Donald L. Carano ’59 Alumni of the Year Award, an honor presented to a legal professional whose leadership and service have significantly advanced the law school community.
As chair of the USF Law Board of Governors, Matthew has strengthened alumni engagement and expanded collaboration across admissions, career services, development, and alumni relations. Since joining the board in 2019, he has mentored students, judged Moot Court, and partnered with MoFo to host key programs that support student development and alumni involvement.
At MoFo, Matthew serves as co-chair of the Life Sciences & IP Litigation Group, leading efforts to protect our clients’ intellectual property and defend them when they are wrongly accused of infringement.
Matthew’s ongoing commitment underscores the strong ties between MoFo and the academic institutions shaping the next generation of lawyers.
The awards ceremony was held at Presidio Golf Course Clubhouse on December 4, in conjunction with the university’s alumni holiday mixer. Learn more about this year’s honorees on USF Law’s LinkedIn page.
