Morrison Foerster Named Among Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year in Compliance and White Collar
Law360 has selected MoFo for two Practice Group of the Year awards for 2025, recognizing the firm in both the White Collar and Compliance categories. Practice Group of the Year for White Collar is an inaugural honor for our preeminent Investigations + White Collar Defense practice. Practice Group of the Year for Compliance marks the third time in four years that MoFo has been recognized, reflecting the firm’s ability to handle the most complex, high-stakes matters through integrated, cross-practice teams, including lawyers from the Global Ethics + Compliance, Investigations + White Collar Defense, National Security, and Data, Cyber + Privacy practices.
MoFo’s Investigations + White Collar Defense team handled some of the most sensitive and consequential matters of the year, guiding organizations and individuals through multi-agency criminal, civil, and regulatory investigations spanning the U.S., Europe, Africa, and beyond. The team led the resolution of sprawling enforcement actions involving parallel DOJ, the SEC, foreign prosecutors, and congressional scrutiny; coordinated cross-border anti-corruption resolutions without the imposition of monitors; and served in trusted oversight roles for a major financial regulator following findings of institutional misconduct. MoFo also advised on emerging enforcement priorities at the intersection of cybersecurity, disclosure, and governance, securing favorable outcomes in closely watched regulatory investigations. In parallel, the team defended individuals facing criminal charges and wrongful detention abroad, combining legal advocacy with diplomatic, reputational, and strategic engagement to achieve dismissal of charges and release from custody. Across these matters, MoFo delivered pragmatic results in politically charged, high-profile situations where legal risk, public scrutiny, and global regulatory expectations converged.
In a year marked by regulatory uncertainty, aggressive enforcement, and geopolitical volatility, Morrison Foerster cemented its role as a go-to firm for complex global compliance matters. Handling more than 400 matters across jurisdictions, MoFo’s multidisciplinary teams guided clients through overlapping U.S. and international regimes spanning sanctions, AI governance, privacy, financial regulation, and national security. During the award period, the firm served as an independent third-party reviewer for one of the world’s largest banks, leading regulator-mandated OFAC compliance reviews across the U.S., Europe, and Asia, while advising another major U.S. bank on a voluntary self-disclosure involving potential sanctions violations. In parallel, MoFo guided a global hospitality company through AI and privacy compliance across nearly 30 jurisdictions, developing AI risk management processes and advising on emerging privacy, biometric, and data security obligations, and advised the Amsterdam Health & Technology Institute on a Dutch government–funded digital health platform designed to give citizens control over their personal data by embedding privacy- and ethics-by-design principles into AI-enabled tools and national data-sharing infrastructure.
Spanning the Americas, Europe, and Asia, MoFo’s integrated team brings together attorneys across the firm’s Global Ethics + Compliance, Investigations + White Collar Defense, National Security, and Data, Cyber + Privacy practices. The team includes distinguished former government lawyers from a broad range of enforcement and regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Attorney’s Offices nationwide, the Departments of Treasury, Defense, and State, the National Security Council, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. It also includes veteran career defense attorneys, former in-house compliance counsel, privacy and data security experts, international trade specialists, sanctions and national security lawyers, and former government regulators from the U.K. Serious Fraud Office and other non-U.S. agencies.
Now in its 16th year, Law360’s Practice Group of the Year awards honor the law firms behind major deals and litigation wins that resonated throughout the legal industry.
