MoFo and Legal Services Group Secure Settlement With City of Pasadena in Eaton Fire Contamination Suit

Whitney O'Byrne spoke to The Recorder about a settlement with the City of Pasadena Morrison Foerster achieved on behalf of Pasadena tenants affected by residual environmental contamination from the January 2025 Eaton wildfire.
She discussed how this settlement differs from a similar one MoFo achieved in September 2025 between the Altadena Tenants Union and individual Altadena tenants and Los Angeles County and the LA Department of Public Health. Whitney noted the Pasadena settlement includes a fast-track program, through which tenants living in the region specified in the agreement can contact the city immediately to arrange an inspection within a 75-day window.
Whitney continued, "Both of these settlements establish clear protocols, enforceable initiatives, and we hope that other municipalities would follow and adopt something similar voluntarily, especially as wildfires are becoming, unfortunately, a big threat to our communities. So we hope that this can be a template if other municipalities want to look at it and use it."
