James Koukios spoke to Global Investigations Review about a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi from a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers calling on the Justice Department to “robustly enforce” the Foreign Extortion Prevention Act (FEPA), which allows the prosecution of foreign officials who request bribes from US businesses, individuals, and publicly listed companies.
James noted that the Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche's June memo urging white-collar enforcement that prioritizes U.S. business interests matches up with the lawmakers’ calls to prioritize cases that harm U.S. businesses. He said, "They’re saying [that] if these bribe demands are hurting American interests, then you should enforce it against the officials."
