Jonathan Newmark Named a Law.com New York Legal Awards Rising Star
Jonathan Newmark, of counsel in Morrison Foerster’s Data, Cyber + Privacy Group, has been recognized as a 2026 Law.com New York Legal Awards Rising Star in the Privacy, Cyber and Data Strategy/Litigation category.
Jonathan was one of only three lawyers selected for this honor in his practice area, recognizing his work on some of today’s most complex privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data governance matters.
Over the past year, Jonathan has advised clients on high-profile regulatory investigations, technology transactions, and data governance challenges. His work included leading the strategy for a New York Attorney General investigation involving youth privacy issues and advising on the privacy and data-sharing aspects of the $5.8 billion Rivian-Volkswagen joint venture. He also continues to shape emerging legal issues through thought leadership on AI, consumer privacy, and evolving data protection laws.
In addition to his client work, Jonathan is a dedicated mentor and leader within Morrison Foerster. He helps coordinate the firm’s summer associate program, supports recruiting and inclusion initiatives, and maintains an active pro bono practice representing asylum seekers and advising nonprofit organizations on privacy matters.
The Law.com New York Legal Awards recognize lawyers whose work is shaping the future of the profession. Jonathan’s selection reflects his leadership, sound judgment, and commitment to helping clients navigate rapidly evolving privacy and cybersecurity challenges.
