Brian R. Michael to Receive Teach Democracy’s Lloyd M. Smith Award

Brian R. Michael, a partner in Morrison Foerster’s Los Angeles office, will receive the Lloyd M. Smith Award at Teach Democracy’s 2026 Annual Celebration in recognition of his years of board service and commitment to advancing civic education.

Teach Democracy is a leading nonpartisan nonprofit that equips students with the knowledge and skills to become informed and engaged participants in civic life. Its work reaches thousands of students and educators each year, with a focus on expanding access to high-quality civic education for underserved communities.

Brian has served on Teach Democracy’s Board of Directors for many years, helping guide the organization’s mission and growth. Morrison Foerster has supported Teach Democracy for decades through board leadership, annual financial support, and by hosting first-generation college students as summer interns in the firm’s Los Angeles office after they graduate from high school.

Teach Democracy’s Annual Celebration will take place on September 17, 2026, at The Beverly Hilton. Hosted by Marketplace’s Kai Ryssdal, the event will bring together more than 600 legal, business, and civic leaders while commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
