State Cybersecurity Laws: Steps to Address Regulators’ Priorities

Miriam Wugmeister spoke with Cybersecurity and AI Law Report about how companies can better prepare for heightened state regulatory scrutiny following cybersecurity incidents. She explained that regulators increasingly examine breach notification timelines, incident response planning, identity management and vendor oversight to assess whether organizations acted diligently. Miriam emphasized the importance of advance planning, documenting response efforts and improving notification processes to demonstrate compliance. She also highlighted the growing role AI could play in accelerating breach investigations and reducing notification delays. Miriam noted, “It’s very much my hope that AI will make that better and faster.”
