Jim Krenn was quoted in the article, "Built to Be Bought? What Makes Companies Acquisition-Ready" in Life Sciences IP Review. In the article Jim discusses strategies for how biotech companies with promising science can attract a pharma buyer. He explains the various aspects of a company that make it an attractive acquisition target.
Jim describes how investor capital might benefit life sciences startups, “There is a massive difference between developing a promising therapeutic candidate and actually getting it to patients... Building that capability from scratch can cost hundreds of millions of dollars and introduce another layer of execution risk. A buyer that already has it may capture the value more efficiently."
He also suggests that life sciences companies prepare for an acquisition by reviewing their IP assets, having a game plan for their regulatory pathway, and maintaining straightforward contractual obligations. “A company becomes much more attractive when the science is differentiated and the business around that science is sufficiently clean so the diligence confirms the investment thesis rather than raising new questions.”
