Hyongsoon Kim brings significant experience defending clients in complex commercial litigation, with a substantial focus on high-value class actions and product-liability matters. He is widely recognized for delivering strategic, business-savvy solutions and for obtaining results that align with his clients’ objectives. His track record includes multiple class-certification denials as well as favorable dismissals at both the pleadings and summary-judgment stages.

Hyongsoon has guided clients through class actions involving unfair-business-practices and false-advertising statutes in jurisdictions including California, New York, Texas, Michigan, Florida, and beyond. Hyongsoon also represents clients in litigation under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, the Videotape Privacy Protection Act, and various securities-law claims.

His experience spans a variety of industries, from electronics and digital platforms to automotive, medical, oil and gas, retail, and food and beverage, providing him with a breadth of insight into the unique risks and opportunities across sectors.

Before joining Morrison Foerster, Hyongsoon was the head of the California Litigation group and Consumer Class Action group at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.

  • Secured summary judgment and dismissal for a national veterinary hospital chain in a consumer fraud class action related to product labeling.
  • Obtained dismissals for leading electronics brands in consumer class actions in California and New Jersey concerning product-labeling allegations.
  • Serves as California and West Coast counsel to a national vehicle manufacturer in product liability cases involving catastrophic injury claims.
  • Represented a national diagnostic laboratory chain in an antitrust class action.
  • Achieved complete dismissal at the pleadings stage for a global television brand in a class action alleging misrepresentations about energy efficiency.
  • Defended major grocery retailers in a multimillion-dollar food-labeling class action, resulting in denial of class certification and voluntary dismissal.
