Julia represents clients in the resolution of large-scale commercial (often cross-border) disputes before state courts and in arbitration, with a focus on technology-based and corporate disputes. She is proficient in commercial resolutions and has represented clients in all aspects of litigation, from pre-litigation strategy, trial, and settlement negotiations to the enforcement of judgments.

Julia has handled matters in a variety of industries, ranging from automotive, aviation, and consumer goods to telecommunications, heavy machinery, and banking. Her practice includes litigating intellectual property disputes as well as highly regulated fields like sanctions- and data privacy-related disputes. She also regularly advises clients on product liability matters and crisis management.

Julia regularly speaks on litigation strategy and cross-border litigation issues. She has been quoted in publications such as The American Lawyer and Law360.

Before joining Morrison Foerster, Julia was a research assistant at the Institute for Private International Law and Law of Civil Procedure at the University of Regensburg. She also worked for one of the vice presidents of the European Parliament in Brussels and at an international law firm in Spain.

Julia is a partner at Morrison Foerster’s German office in Berlin and head of the German Litigation group.

Representative Experience

  • Supporting clients with pre-litigation strategic advice and representing them in disputes about sanctions law and alleged breach of contract claims, especially in the banking and aviation industries.
  • Defending various stock corporations in shareholder litigation (Spruchverfahren) after squeeze-outs, control agreements, and other structural measures.
  • Representing clients in cross-border ICC and DIS arbitrations in various industries.

Specific matters

  • Assisting an American security device company in the voluntary recall of a product device in the EU and Switzerland, including risk assessment, communication with the authorities, locating the affected products, and informing the customers.
  • Assisting an orthopedic implant manufacturer with the defense against and dispute resolution of numerous claims all across the EU.
  • Defending a private equity investor against post-M&A claims in DIS arbitration.
  • Representing a German industry association in a dispute about the introduction of a new tariff/license fee against the German collecting society Corint Media before the German Copyright Arbitration Board (Schiedsstelle für Urheberrecht) and the Munich Court of Appeals.
  • Defending a financial institution against alleged eternal license claims (including challenges of the IP itself, and multi-million Euros in consequential damages claims against the former CEO).
  • Representing Deutsche Bahn in connection with all aspects of asserting claims for several hundred million Euros in damages from the rail track cartel, including in litigation against major European steel producers. This is one of the largest and most complex cartel damages cases in the history of Germany.
  • Defending Deutsche Telekom in civil antitrust litigation concerning an alleged abuse of dominance by maintaining a margin squeeze in the local loop between 1998 and 2003. Eight of Deutsche Telekom’s competitors have claimed a total of more than 600 million Euros in damages, more than in any other civil antitrust litigation in Germany regarding abusive practices.
  • Defending the data protection provisions of a major German bank in litigation brought by a consumer organization.
  • Defending a Japanese client against antitrust damages claims and distribution law claims of several million Euros.
  • Representing a major German aircraft maintenance provider in numerous cross-border litigation matters, some of them leading up to cross-border enforcement of judgments.
