Brian Sylvester, partner and head of food regulatory at Morrison Foerster, will present at the upcoming Food Law and Regulation Boot Camp, hosted virtually by the American Conference Institute (ACI). He will be a speaker on the panel discussion “A Guide to Plant-Based and Cell-Cultured Food Products,” which will take place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. CT.
This session will explore the shifting regulatory framework and key challenges shaping the development, labeling, and marketing of next-generation food products. Panelists will examine the FDA’s January 2025 draft guidance on labeling plant-based products, ongoing debates over standards of identity for “proteins” and “milks,” and the increasing variability in state-level regulations. The discussion will also address the development and labeling of protein alternatives, GRAS determinations, recent FDA pre-market consultations, state bans, the division of oversight between the FDA and USDA, and the distinctions between cell-cultured foods and those produced through precision fermentation.
